Artifact Explanation
My MA1 was titled “Between Languages and Uniforms: Literacy, Identity, and Adaptation.” This assignment focused on my personal literacy journey through different languages, cultures, schools, and institutions. In the essay, I wrote about being born in New York, growing up in the Dominican Republic, moving to Israel, learning Hebrew, serving in the army, and later studying film at UCF. My literacy story was not only about learning languages. It was about learning how to communicate and belong in different environments.

In this assignment, I explained how Hebrew became one of the biggest challenges in my literacy development. When I moved to Israel at twelve, I had to adjust not only to a new language, but also to a new school system, new social expectations, and eventually the culture of the army. My essay describes how literacy is tied to identity because each environment expected me to communicate differently.
